A carved wood-hilted souvenir dagger and scabbard, India, mid-to-late 20th century
Description
A decorative Indian fixed-blade dagger featuring a polished steel blade with a clip-point profile and a single shallow fuller. An impressed mark on the ricasso of the blade reads INDIA in capital letters. The hilt is constructed from carved wood with foliate motifs and is fitted with a yellow metal crossguard terminating in rounded finials. A spring-clip locking mechanism is attached to the hilt to secure the blade within the scabbard. The accompanying scabbard is made of wood, carved with a repeating pattern of leaves and vines, and finished with a yellow metal throat and a pointed metal chape.
