Description
An oil on canvas painting depicting „A View of the Horse Guards from St. James’s Park,“ a composition famously rendered by Giovanni Antonio Canal, called Canaletto. The large, horizontal artwork presents an 18th-century European cityscape or grand urban park scene, populated by numerous figures dressed in period attire engaged in leisure activities. The composition features prominent architectural structures, including a large domed building and multi-story residences, bordering expansive public spaces and grassy areas. A faint, partially legible signature or inscription, possibly beginning with „WAL“ or „W.A.L.“, is visible in the lower right foreground. The artwork is presented within an ornate, gilded wooden frame.
