A large, rectangular woven tapestry, identified as ‚Audience with the Emperor‘ from The Story of the Emperor of China series, woven by the Beauvais Manufactory, after designs by Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer from 1685-1690. The tapestry, likely executed in wool and silk, depicts a grand ceremonial event in an exotic court, featuring a regal figure on an elevated throne, surrounded by numerous attendants, soldiers, an elephant, and exotic animals such as peacocks and flamingos. Architectural elements are present, alongside a richly detailed border featuring floral and acanthus scroll motifs. The tapestry is professionally mounted within a gilded frame.
