Lot 92:
Description
A large painting depicting a detailed architectural interior of a grand Gothic cathedral, specifically the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp, with soaring vaulted ceilings, tall arches, and a distinctive black and white checkered floor. The interior is populated by numerous figures in period attire engaged in various activities, adding a sense of scale and daily life to the monumental space. The work is presented within an ornate, gilded wooden frame, from which it is suspended by chains. A brass plaque affixed to the lower center of the frame identifies the painting as „Interior of Antwerp Cathedral by Pieter Neeffs,“ noting its provenance from „The Wernher Collection“ and its source from the „English Heritage photo library.“ A „Pre-Auction LOT 92“ sticker is present on the lower left corner of the frame.
Condition report:
The painting appears to be in good overall condition, exhibiting vibrant colors and clear details, consistent with an Old Master work. The frame shows typical age-related wear and patina, with minor losses to gilding commensurate with its age. No major damages or significant restorations are immediately apparent.
