Description
A maritime commemorative wall plaque relating to the Bristol shipbuilding firm Charles Hill and Sons Ltd. The plaque comprises a cast metal medallion with hand-painted and gilded relief details, set upon a circular dark-stained wooden base. The central scene depicts the Clifton Suspension Bridge in polychrome relief. The medallion features two concentric rings: the outer cream ring displays the raised gilded text CHARLES HILL & SONS LTD & FOUNDATION 1760, and the inner blue ring bears the raised gilded motto SHIPSHAPE AND BRISTOL FASHION. A blue-painted five-pointed star is mounted on the left-hand side of the cream ring. The medallion is secured to the wooden base by two visible screws.
