Description
A Chad Valley Bakelite Telephone Intercommunication Set, presented in its original cardboard box with a colorful, lithographed lid. The lid features «THE Chad Valley TELEPHONE, » identifies it as «A HIGH-GRADE INSTRUMENT FOR INTER-COMMUNICATION, » and lists suggested usage locations. It also states «BY APPOINTMENT TOYMAKERS TO HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN / THE CHAD VALLEY CO. LTD. HARBORNE. ENGLAND.» Handwritten numbers and partially legible text «194» and «Bakelite» are visible on the lid. The set comprises two toy telephones, one black and one dark reddish-brown, constructed from Bakelite or early plastic. Each telephone includes a receiver and base unit, both marked «CHAD VALLEY MADE IN ENGLAND TELEPHONE.» The overall style suggests a mid-20th century British period.
