Description
A Chad Valley Bakelite Telephone Intercommunication Set, presented in its original cardboard box with a colorful, lithographed lid. The lid features « THE Chad Valley TELEPHONE, » identifies it as « A HIGH-GRADE INSTRUMENT FOR INTER-COMMUNICATION, » and lists suggested usage locations. It also states « BY APPOINTMENT TOYMAKERS TO HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN / THE CHAD VALLEY CO. LTD. HARBORNE. ENGLAND. » Handwritten numbers and partially legible text « 194 » and « Bakelite » are visible on the lid. The set comprises two toy telephones, one black and one dark reddish-brown, constructed from Bakelite or early plastic. Each telephone includes a receiver and base unit, both marked « CHAD VALLEY MADE IN ENGLAND TELEPHONE. » The overall style suggests a mid-20th century British period.
