Description
An oil painting on canvas board by F. Orlandie, depicting a pair of Northern Cardinals. The composition features a vibrant red male cardinal and a more muted brownish-red female perched on flowering branches. The branches are adorned with large, trumpet-shaped red blossoms and clusters of small orange berries against an atmospheric pale blue and off-white background. The artist has employed smooth brushwork for the background with more textured applications of paint to define the birds’ plumage and the highlights of the flower petals. The work is signed F. ORLANDIE in red script in the upper right corner (photo 2). The painting is presented unframed on its original board support, which shows a prominent canvas weave texture throughout the composition.
