Description
A single 1794 Great Britain copper Conder token, commemorating John Horne Tooke’s trial for high treason. The obverse features a right-facing bust portrait of John Horne Tooke with powdered hair. The legend reads « TRIED FOR HIGH TREASON » above, and « JH TOOKE ESQ.R 1794 » below the portrait. The reverse displays five lines of text: « ACQUITTED BY HIS JURY COUNSEL HON. T. ERSKINE V. GIBBS ESQ.R ». Struck in copper or bronze, this token lacks a visible denomination, mint mark, or serial number.
