Description
A single 1794 Great Britain copper Conder token, commemorating John Horne Tooke’s trial for high treason. The obverse features a right-facing bust portrait of John Horne Tooke with powdered hair. The legend reads “TRIED FOR HIGH TREASON” above, and “JH TOOKE ESQ.R 1794” below the portrait. The reverse displays five lines of text: “ACQUITTED BY HIS JURY COUNSEL HON. T. ERSKINE V. GIBBS ESQ.R”. Struck in copper or bronze, this token lacks a visible denomination, mint mark, or serial number.
