Description
A WW2 RAF Type 06A Hand Bearing Compass by Henry Browne & Son Sestrel. The compass unit is constructed of dark grey-painted metal with a glass face, featuring a sighting mechanism with knurled adjusters. Visible markings on the bezel include « TYPE 06. », « AFT », « No 16287 D. », « 6A/0473 », and a prominent « AM » symbol beneath a crown, indicative of British Air Ministry provenance. The compass is housed within a fitted, painted wooden case with a visible canvas strap. A separate grey metal component with a wooden handle, likely a sighting scope or control, is stored within a dedicated cutout in the case. The interior of the wooden case features custom-cut wooden inserts and degraded padding, with a repurposed « DELICIOUS… CARAMEL / Airdrie Scotland » cardboard liner used as internal packing material.
