Description
An Italian 18th Century Walnut and Burr-Walnut Bombé Commode, constructed primarily of wood and extensively veneered with highly figured burr-walnut. The commode features a serpentine front, a shaped apron with ornate rocaille-style carving, and four heavily carved cabriole legs. It is fitted with six drawers arranged in two tiers, each with decorative brass or bronze rococo-style pulls and keyhole escutcheons. The surface is covered by a custom-fitted, shaped glass top. A small paper tag marked ‘264’ is attached to an upper drawer pull.
Condition report:
Good antique condition. Exhibits typical surface wear, minor finish inconsistencies, and abrasions consistent with age and use. The custom-fitted glass top shows surface scratches. Veneer appears stable with minor lifting in isolated areas. Brass/bronze hardware shows patination.
