Lot 487:
Description
This collection consists of approximately ten color offset lithographic plates removed from the British weekly magazine The Sketch, with printed dates ranging from 1923 to 1926. The diverse subject matter includes mythological and narrative scenes such as The Sirens Cavern after Gaston Bussiere and Krishna Among the Shepherdesses, caricature art featuring the character Bonzo by G.E. Studdy, and portraiture including a child study by Georges Redon and a depiction of dancer Anna Pavlova. These are mass-produced periodical illustrations rather than limited edition fine art prints. Titles, artist attributions, and publication information are printed in the margins of each sheet. While several plates bear printed in-plate signatures, no hand-signatures or edition numbers are present. The prints are produced on standard magazine weight paper and are currently unframed.
Condition report:
The prints exhibit typical age-related paper toning and minor handling creases throughout the collection. The edges are irregular where the plates were detached from the original bound volumes. No significant tears or stains are visible.
