Description
A vintage Everitt’s Patent Press trouser press, retailed by Hepworths’, « The World’s Premier Clothiers. » The press is comprised of two primary wooden boards; the larger, lighter-toned board features two hinged, threaded metal rods with butterfly-nut style clamps. The smaller, darker-stained wooden board attaches to these via two polished metal uprights, also secured with similar adjustable clamps. A paper label on the larger board provides operating instructions, stating « EVERITT’S, » « REVERSE THIS BOARD AND PLACE TROUSERS ON THE OTHER SIDE, » and advises on pressure and a « STRETCHER ATTACHMENT. » A separate white plaque on the darker wood identifies it as « EVERITT’S PATENT PRESS, » « HEPWORTHS’, » and « THE WORLD’S PREMIER CLOTHIERS. » This functional item is consistent with an early to mid-20th century period.
